An original story on self-discovery written by our student Arnav Govil.

Arnav is 12 years old young writer from Gurgaon. He is enthusiastic about Cricket. We are proud to have him as a student of the Little Writers Program, an Online Creative Writing Program using Applied Storytelling & Applied Theatre tools under the mentorship of Trainer Khusshbo Chokhaani. We congratulate Arnav for this exemplary true self-expression.

The Cube Drive

Imagine you enter a room where there are many tables set and kids of your age are sitting there and solving the Rubix cube in just some seconds. Left, right, in front of all the three corners you hear the sounds of the timer tapping the clock and saying 30 seconds, 20 seconds. I never got interested in learning new things but this intrigued me. I decided to try my hands at it and the cube drive started.

I tried and was able to solve my first 3×3 Rubix cube easily. I decided to try and solve a more difficult cube, the 5×5 (also known as the professor’s cube) cube. I gave up easily after trying it because I couldn’t solve it after 4 to 5 attempts. I kept it in my drawer, to taste the dust. One day I was getting bored and decided to try it again. I kept on trying to solve it while watching videos on YouTube. I was astonished when I solved the first step. I was not able to solve the next step even after trying a lot. Some days later I told my friend about it. He told me that if I was able to solve the first step, I would also be able to solve the second step if I keep on trying. I tried to solve the cube again. I was shocked because I also forgot how to do the first step. I was disheartened and disappointed. That night my mom encouraged me to try and solve it again.

I tried doing the first step of the 5×5 cube again and was able to solve it. I could not believe it! I decided to solve the whole cube and watched the YouTube video and kept on doing it side by side. I worked hard for many days and was able to solve it. I practiced a lot to become fast at it. Many of my friends also knew how to solve it. So, we decided to have a friendly competition. I was the first one to solve it. As they say, practice makes a man perfect.

I set my next goal to solve the 3×3 in under 25 seconds. This whole experience encouraged me to learn new things like swimming and badminton. I practiced, I practiced, and I practiced all things where I wasn’t good enough. The experience made me hardworking and determined. I never gave up easily after this experience. I changed a lot. I discovered the persistent Arnav who keeps going on and on.
