1. Boring School Routine”-Quatrain Free Verse Style Poetry- Tanvi Dash
I wake up early by the irritating alarm ringing beside my bed,
And go to the washroom and see my clumsy face and head.
I brush my teeth in a hurry with no interest,
Get ready for school, unenthusiastically leave my cosy nest.
I find my usual desk with my humorous friends,
And listen to the teacher’s boring history legends.
Oh! But the recess is what I least look forward to,
The awful smell filled the room, with my friend’s smacking chew!
My science teacher goes for explanations,
In evaporation, conduction, and filtration.
Now it’s time we wave our goodbyes,
And give each other tired high fives.
I reach home with my bag weighing a ton,
And after eating, studying, and playing the day is done.
I woke up early the next day, again,
And it goes again, again and again.
Now I miss my crazy friends, the huge library, the sweaty playground,
And I wish I hadn’t asked God for such a long holiday so now I’m home bound
Smiling friendly faces are now rare to be seen,
And the television goes vaccine, vaccine, and vaccine.
2. “The Bus Stop”-Couplet Onomatopoeia Style Poetry-Tanvi Dash
I hear the deafening honk of the buses,
When they arrive at the bus stop.
The brassy roar of the bus engine,
While it departs with passengers.
The jingling bells of the hawkers,
When they arrive with their goods.
The shrill street cries of the vendors,
When they sell toys and garments.
The loud vrooming of the cars,
When they noisily pass by.
The chattering of the nearby people,
While they patiently wait for their buses.
The humming of the airplane,
When it passes over our heads.
The riotous bus stop sounds I hear,
While I wait for my school bus.
3. Ganesh -An Epic Style Poem- Tanvi Dash
Ganesh, the king of obstacles, the elephant god,
Son of mother Parvati and mighty Shiva Lord.
With his brother, Karthikeya, he lived in heavens,
With other gods and could use all the weapons.
He had the prestigious privilege of being worshipped first,
The jealous gods wanted this entitlement to quench their thirst.
They thought it was highly unfair and decided to race.
The one who completes three rounds of the world for him victory awaits!!
The race began and everyone rushed on their loyal pets.
However, young Ganesh was doing his morning chores with no regrets!
When he was finally done, he said that his respectful parents were his world,
Made three rounds of them and a great deal of respect he earned.
The gods agreed that precocious Ganesh deserved this honour.
Touched by this gesture, Shiva delightedly thumped him on his shoulder.
The troublesome problem was solved by Ganesh the clever,
He was then wholeheartedly worshipped first forever.
4. Lost in the Jungle!!- Quatrain Style Poem-Tanvi Dash
My plane crashed,
I was the only survivor.
I had no options
But to find help.
It was a dense forest,
And there was no one.
My sight was useless,
So was my smell.
I had an injured arm.
I felt the unexplainable pain,
So, my touch was of no use.
I carefully took a step.
My ears were the only way,
To hear a movement.
With hope, I walked forwards,
But I tripped and fell.
I sat there and listened
I heard a quick hustle
Was it just a mouse?
Or was it a snake!?
I got up and cautiously moved,
And heard the trees and leaves.
Were they just swaying?
Or were they warning me?
I heard some babble,
Water!
I swiftly moved that way.
I heard the pleasant coos.
I there were continuous chirps
And everything was wet around me.
A snake!
No, it was just a tree branch.
I reached the gushing river,
Which made a tremendous noise.
I walked against the flow,
The sounds were muffled by the burbles.
I walked and walked,
It was tiresome.
I spent many days walking,
But I hopefully searched.
Then I heard a ‘Baaaa’,
A sheep!
I walked forward feebly,
There wasn’t much energy left.
I heard some footsteps,
But everything turned blur.
I saw a blurry image of a man.
I rejoicingly smiled and fainted.
Now, I live with an old man,
In a village near the noisy forest.
I have made many friends here,
And I survived!
5. Musical Kitchen- Sound Poem- Tanvi Dash
The gurgle of the drain
While the vegetables are washed,
The whirring of the exhaust fan
When the spicy air rises up.
The thudding of knives
While the potatoes are sliced,
The sizzling of frying pan
When the onions touch it.
The scraping of spatula
While spreading the paste,
The beeping of microwave
When the food is cooked.
The clinking of plates
While the food is served,
The squeaking of chairs
When everyone sits down.
The rumble of my tummy
While I smell the tangy aroma,
The munching of my mouth
When I hear the kitchen sounds.
6. Fireflies -Couplet Style Poem- Tanvi Dash
They appear in the eerie night,
Aren’t capable of giving a hideous fright.
Like dazzling fairy lights, they look,
Under a tree with a fascinating book.
I caught a weak one in my hand,
It sedately faded away in my hand.
I left it steadily on the ground,
It started to warmly glow again, I found!
It rose in the chill, night air,
Like the distant stars it started to flare!
But I patiently wait each night for them,
They glow vividly, just like a gem.
7. Wonders -Poem on Book Titles- Tanvi Dash
Elizabeth was the naughtiest girl in school,
Whose best friend was little Matilda.
They troubled Harry Potter all day long.
One day they met Percy Jackson,
Who was worshipped as The Little Prince.
He met a lost man named Gulliver’s Travel,
Who read out to him the diary of a young girl,
So that he could quench the thirst of all his wonders.
8.The Sneaky Arrival- Free Verse Style Poem- Tanvi Dash
I was wide awake all night,
And the whispers couldn’t give me a fright.
I could hear snores downstairs,
But the deathly silence wasn’t a nightmare.
I heard an owl hooting,
But my head still wasn’t drooping.
I could hear the faint cry of a baby,
Then soothing lullabies of a lady.
I was sitting silently in my room,
When I heard a muffled boom.
It sounded like the backdoor,
But who could it be at morning four?
I rushed down in hushed silence,
And I skipped a creaky stair, lost balance,
But sat there frozen in excitement,
And saw the sneaky arrival of Aunt Kent!!
