The Non-Greedy Boy
Haashhhh……… hoooooshhh!!!!. The blistery windy afternoon in Ladakh had a bone-chilling feel. The graupels from the sky set a sparkling view. The hoar frost set on the frozen lakes became a problem for people playing ice hockey. Small notorious children were having snowball fights. Mr. Sun was also having fun playing peek-a-boo with the clouds. In this pleasant view, suddenly came a harsh sound, it was like somebody was shovelling the snow and mumbling. Well, it was none other than Rishesh a 15-year-old, helpful and kind-hearted boy who was already bundled up. He was wearing a hand warmer while letting the snow out of his neighbor’s entrance to make it unsullied. During winter tide cleaning the entrance was a famous business for children in Ladakh. But Rishesh had no greed for money, he unsullied everyone’s house in the crisp wind but didn’t demand for anything. But still, people would give him 10-20 bucks.
One same afternoon he was doing his duty and shoveling out the snow. But the man for whom Rishesh was shoveling the snow didn’t have any change to give to Rishesh. As usual, Rishesh didn’t ask for anything and set off to another place. He was fully packed up with earmuffs, crampons, a muffler, an overcoat, a puffy jacket, turtleneck, boots and leggings while some people were set inside their house comfortably with comforters, fireplace, flannel sheets, furnace and insulations while some of them were enjoying baklavas, bread-pudding, candy canes, figgy-pudding. Seeing this view Rishesh also crave to eat figgy-pudding. But he still had to earn 50 bucks more! He kept on working all day, but still at the end of the day he had earned only 25 bucks. He was sad, after working all day he couldn’t make even 50 bucks. He was sitting on a bench and saw people enjoying their food, he had no option instead to go back to his home. Suddenly the neighbor who didn’t pay him, showed up, after seeing him like this he asked Rishesh what happened, he told him everything. After listening to Rishesh he offered him the money, but as usual, Rishesh denied the money. The man thought for a few minutes and came up with an idea.
He offered Rishesh a challenge about two games- 1st broomball and 2ndice hockey whoever won both games would win 100 bucks. Rishesh agreed and started playing, he finally won both the games and won 100 bucks. He finally got the Figgy pudding not only for himself but also for his neighbor.
