Change for Jaipur I Student Veronica Ghallian I Online Creative Writing Program

An original story written by our online student Veronica Ghallian.

Veronica is 10 years old young orator and writer from Mumbai. Change for Jaipur

Summer is fun but blazing hot! The heat is blistering all around Jaipur. It is scorching and one can’t look up at the sun at all! Soon the people of Jaipur will be sizzling on a barbecue. Good thing that heat doesn’t smell otherwise that would be bad. A cool refreshing snack would be enough for all of them. Everyone was sweating buckets. Don’t be burnt to a crisp by the boiling sun. They all have their Air conditioners on. Oh, how relaxing that would be. Surfing would be awesome in the ocean but that is too hot. Don’t roast Marshmallows in the fire anymore. Take out ice creams from the freezer to survive this sizzling summer.

In the location of the sizzling summer, there was a girl called Rekha. She had sparkling blue eyes with beautiful blonde hair. She was passionate and amazing in her work.

She dreamed of becoming an Environmentalist one day to change the world. She believed it was scorching hot due to climate change. She wanted to change this blistering hot place to a cool green city. It was so hot the Jaipur folks switched on the AC and then there would be an Electricity shortage in many areas.

Jaipur didn’t know what was coming at them. Rekha tried to convince a lot of people to grow lots of trees and save water. Many of them were not listening and instead, they were using their supplies and sources carelessly. Soon water crisis arrived and there was not a lot of water. Rekha started to worry and did not know what to do. She would cry in the corner and even started having minor panic attacks. She would sometimes go to therapy to let her unpleasant emotions flow out of her heart.

One day she was walking back from school and bumped into a signboard due to her dizziness. She was amazed to see what was written on the board. It said, “It is time to make a change for Jaipur. Let’s get together to save the city ”. Rekha felt hope that maybe someone was willing to work with her. She called the number mentioned on the board and waited for the person to pick up the call. “Hello “said the person on the call. “Who is this? “. Rekha replied, “I am Rekha. I saw your sign board. I wanted to work with you to save the city from this heat”.  The person replied, “Of course! Why not! I am sending you my office address and you can stop by anytime you want”. Happily, Rekha replied, “Thank you, have a great day “.

When the man had sent the address to her, she could feel a bulge of excitement. She had never felt so ecstatic before. All the burden of Jaipur on her head finally disappeared from her. She ran back home and thought that her family members would be proud of her which is amazing.

It will take many years of work to achieve her dream. The man and Rekha never gave up or lost hope. They worked with many organizations to make the city a better place for everyone. They believed that the citizens of Jaipur would support them. Their effort bore fruit. People started planting trees everywhere, reduced plastic usage, and preferred local transport over private transport. All these efforts turned the city into an eco-friendly environment surrounded by greenery. Soon Jaipur was eco-friendly and a green city. Rekha was proud of her city and herself.
