Chapter 1: Dream or Reality?

“Davina and Rebekah had a perfect life. They couldn’t remember the last time something went wrong in their life. The same routine every day with perfectly neat corners of sheets on the bed and nicely aligned furniture. There was nothing that could go wrong………”

Just then a sound of a click deleted all that was written on the laptop. Sandra got up from her chair and lay down on her bed. The sun was starting to set and stars were starting to shine just from the dome-shaped skylight of her room. Just as she took a deep breath and closed her eyes, her phone started vibrating. Sandra picked up and a polite voice spoke, “Hey, Sandra I just wanted to call to ask how it was going on with the book. Not to pressure you but I set up an interview for you next Friday for the last book. Is that ok?”

Sandra agreed to take the interview. She had been writing a series of novels forever but after a while even she ran out of ideas. She was trying to think of a plot or storyline just so much of even a problem but nothing came to her. Slowly after a little brainstorming of ideas, she fell asleep. The next morning when she woke up, she started writing the ideas that started coming to her mind like waves. As days passed it was Friday and it was just an hour before her interview. She sat in front of the mirror and started getting ready. When she was done, she stepped outside her room and fortunately took a step back.

To her surprise, her house wasn’t there. Outside her room was a cliff, but the view was astonishing. The waterfall was echoing noises as soothing as starlings chirping. The wind brushed against her cheeks while the trees swung from side to side. She forgot all about how half of her house was missing. ‘Wait no’, she came back to her senses and slapped herself thinking it was a dream. Nothing changed, so she pinched herself but the waterfall was exactly where it was and the trees were just as green as they looked before. She looked down the cliff to see a bird but it was breathing fire. Sandra took a closer look and realized that it was a dragon just the size of a bird. Suddenly a shadow fell on them so Sandra looked up. It was pink and orange, had a beautiful pattern on it, and looked like a butterfly. It was one. Sandra was amused by the world she was in. The only problem was that she didn’t know where she was. Sandra now looked back with a start a certain stomping sound made her jump, behind her were elephants but not the ones you think. They were small, like the size of a puppy, you could just pick one up in your arms.

Crossing the side of her torn-apart room she started walking on a path, starving she came across a tree house. It looked unbelievably beautiful but it was also the one proof that she was not the only one stuck on the mysterious island. Not knowing what to do she went inside the tree house, Sandra was so relieved to know that the tree house wasn’t deserted. Taking a few more steps she greeted the two girls who were sitting on one side of a room each with a book in their hands.

Chapter 2: The Girls Wrote

The girls let out a shriek but they weren’t scared they were welcoming and sweet girls and so they greeted her back. Sandra knew she had seen them before. There was something similar about those dark brown hair worn in loose waves and those blue eyes, full lips, rosy cheeks, and lightly tanned skin. Along with the pale, fair skin, blue eyes, and wavy red hair. They introduced themselves, The girl with brown hair was Davina Campbell, and the one with red hair was Rebekah Moors. Suddenly Sandra remembered something. Those were the charters from the book she was currently writing with the excitement of discovering where she was a sudden disappointment on her face uttered the words, “ I’m Sandra Blackwell and currently I’m stuck in a book.” She took a minute to process everything and then exclaimed, “Ok, so no time to waste, we have to find the conclusion.” Davina and Rebekah clueless of what Sandra meant asked, “The conclusion?”

Sandra took a deep breath and started to explain, “I think I’m currently stuck in a book, my book that I was writing and I think that to go home I have to bring this book to an end so first we have to figure out the problem and then we have to solve it.”

Chapter 3: ‘The Caritatem et Pacem’

Davina and Rebekah were at first confused but after a little explaining they were catching up and they remembered how just the day before Megaira, the fortress of the evil side had stolen ‘The caritatem, et pacem’ When Sandra asked what it was the girls told her that it was the jewel of love and peace it was embedded in the statue of a dove. The jewel kept the island at peace and its people kind. Megaira stole the Jewel to have power over the entire island and not only just her side. If she keeps the stone away from the dove’s eye for more than one week the island and its people will go rogue. Shadow will take over; flowers will turn into thorns and the people will turn into monsters craving for greed. The trio thought that that must be it. They had to steal back the Jewel from Megaira and put it back in the dove’s eyes. They set out on their journey not knowing what they will face ahead. Two days had passed by since they started their trail, so far the only things they had faced were begs and insects. The next day they decided to camp out near a river. Sandra for the first time paid attention to the sky. It wasn’t the normal shade of navy blue, instead, it was purple with tints of pink and green shining stars. The moon was larger than usual it looked like a faded reflection of a planet. The next day went the same until the sound of a crack. They didn’t realize but they had been walking on eggs of a spider.

Davina looked up and saw a pair of eyes open, It was a spider but since all the small animals were big and the big were small, the Spider turned out to be huge, They screamed and started running but the spider kept catching up to them. Rebekah with her fast thinking mounted a butterfly, since they were huge they were easy and fun to fly on Sandra and Davina did the same and they flew off. They flew over hills and rivers for the next whole day. The one thing they didn’t realize was how they were on a journey to darkness.

Chapter 4: The Fortress of Evil

The three girls realized how big of an island that was, It was taking them forever to reach Megaira’s territory. The butterflies got tired and so when they landed to rest The three girls got off and decided to walk they were getting closer to the evil side but they were also worried about how only two days were left before the island was going to be taken over by evil.

After a few hours, they finally reached. The place was different from the rest of the island it was dark instead of flowers there were thorns and the roots looked like ropes while hanging from the trees were skulls. They managed to sneak into Megaira’s castle and when they did, they saw that it couldn’t be that hard to destroy her with no security or help around but what they didn’t know was that she was great with swords, so when they attacked her she picked up her father’s sword. Sandra was the closest to the stack of other swords and so she pulled one out too. Putting on a face of confidence even though she had none she started fighting Megaira. Davina and Rebekah snuck to the second floor of the castle where they saw the Jewel, they put it in their backpack and were headed out but they saw that it would be difficult for Sandra to get out of the fight, she already had cuts on her arms which were bleeding nonstop. Davina took out a blade and shot it at Megaira. A thousand cuts appeared on her body. It was the devil’s star, one throw could make a thousand cuts. Sandra thanked Davina and they rushed to the dove statue. They took the butterflies and it took them six hours to reach there.

Chapter 5: The Countdown to Midnight

It was two minutes to midnight which meant after those two minutes the island would be in danger. Davina and Rebekah started feeling weird, their blood vessels started to pop out like one of a vampire’s. Their eyes started bleeding. Sandra rushed and grabbed a rope from Davina’s bag she started climbing the statue and just thirty seconds before midnight she put the Jewel back in the dove’s eye. The skies started clearing up and Davina and Rebekah started looking as beautiful as they looked before. The thorns turned into flowers and Davina, Rebekah, and Sandra bid their goodbyes. Sandra faded away in front of the girls and ended up exactly where she was before.

Chapter 6: No Place Like Home

Sandra found herself in front of the mirror. She looked at the clock and only 5 mins had passed even though it seemed like a week in the book. She drove to her interview. This time she wasn’t stressed about her new book instead she was happy. She had it all figured out. This time her thoughts were not about what the plot of her new book would be but instead about how much fun she had when she was in the book. She wanted to believe that it was a dream or maybe just a dive in her subconsciousness but it wasn’t. She realized she was stuck in the book. Whatever it was her readers seemed to love the new plot and Sandra decided her next step in life to be more adventures and traveling.

A Wrinkle in Time- Collection of Short Chapter Stories

Chapter 1 – Introduction

A masked killer in the area, and two lonely twin orphans, but for how long…

The year was 2050. Alia and Arthur were 13 years old twins. Alia was elder by 5 minutes. They went to St.Xaviers. Alia was the fearless one, always up for a challenge. While Arthur was the opposite. They didn’t know who their parents were or where they came from, all they remembered was waking up in an empty house.

Empty, but not abandoned. It had food, water, and everything else one needs to live. It was on the outskirts of the town. They didn’t have any money but the school accepted them without asking for any school fees. The supplies they found when they first arrived, never ran out, ever. Students or teachers didn’t give them much importance. They didn’t have a social life. They went to school and came back. This was their daily schedule.

Life was going fine so they didn’t question anything…until one day.

Chapter 2-Masked Killer

One day an announcement was made about the masked killer. Students were told to go home carefully. That day, on their way home Alia saw the abandoned building beside their house. She challenged Arthur to spend the night there with her. He denied but Alia kept insisting. Finally, he agreed.

At night, while they were on the way to the building, Alia sensed someone following them. They were going up the stairs and this time she saw a shadow following them, which was unusual since no one even came near that area. They reached the top and saw a reflection of something sparkly on the wall.

They turned around and saw the killer wearing a…ballroom mask and…a crown??? Even though the situation was frightening, Alia felt something. Unable to identify the feeling, they kept backing up, but it was no use, it was a dead end.

Suddenly, a door opened behind them. They saw stairs ahead of them and scared for their lives, they ran down them. They finally stopped (after what felt like forever) and saw some light ahead. Naturally, they went towards the light. After a couple of minutes, they came to an opening.

Chapter 3- Realization Hits

It was a breathtaking view. The ethereal beauty and the landscape were surreal. The ineffable beauty of the greenery was glorious. The air felt magical. The atmosphere was peculiar, yet it felt right being there.

They went further ahead and saw a beautiful village. Children running around playing, men working and women doing the household chores. They went further into the village and saw people wearing very old-fashioned clothes. Something which would have been worn in the 18th century.

Arthur had a feeling that they were in a completely different place right now, it was like they were in a different period. To test out his theory he asked a merchant the year. He gave them a weird look like they were psychopaths.

Turns out, they had traveled 3 centuries back in time, it was the year 1750. That’s why the place was so beautiful, there was no pollution.

Chapter 4- Kingless Queen

A messenger of the royal family had seen them enter the village and told the queen that two kids wearing uncanny clothes have come. Before they knew it, they were surrounded by guards. They escorted Alia and Arthur to the kingdom. The queen wanted to meet them.

Alia had déjà vu upon entering the palace. The crystal necklace she had, started to glow. She was shocked but quickly got over it as they entered the throne room. They saw the queen sitting on the throne (instead of the king)  and the ministers whispering to one another.

The queen silenced the ministers and complimented Alia’s butterfly necklace even though she was wearing a crystal one.

Arthur hesitantly asked the queen why she was on the throne instead of the king. Queen thought about it for a moment and then, to their surprise, offered to tell them a story. Scared he said yes. “About 50 years ago, my husband(the king)and my two kids, and I lived happily in the kingdom. The people of the royal family aged slowly. In ten human years, we age by one year, so we live for centuries. But if the importance of royalty starts to perish, so will our power. One day my husband was wondering about our kid’s future. He went to a well-known priest, who was said to be able to look into the future, to ensure the safety of our kids. The priest told him about the disasters which were going to occur in the future. The importance of royalty will also terminate and they’re aging process will fasten. He was worried and just a few days later went missing. Even the kids weren’t found. They have not been found to date.”

Alia suddenly realized he didn’t go missing, he went to the future. She realized that the masked killer was nobody other than the king. She ran up to the throne and asked for permission to speak to the Queen in private with her brother. Queen, astonished by this gesture, agreed and requested everyone to vacate the hall. Alia said “ Your Majesty, we are from the future, the year 2050. We seem to have accidentally time-traveled back here while escaping from a masked killer. We noticed he was wearing a crown and a ballroom mask. It is also very well possible that the killer is your husband who had time traveled to the future and for some unknown reason become a masked killer.” The queen looked angry like she would have both of them killed, instead, she just took a deep breath and said, “There’s only one way to prove this theory, go to that priest, but it won’t be easy.” Without giving it a second thought, Alia agreed.

They decided to stay in the palace for the night and go to the priest the next day. The queen told them that the journey ahead won’t be easy, hence they should practice attacks and defenses. She called into the room, the best swordsman and the best archer. Arthur turned out to be a great archer, hitting the bull’s eye on the first try and Alia was a great swordsman.

Chapter 5- Quest of Necklace

By dawn, they were already on their way with their weapons handy.

It just took an hour by foot to reach the priest’s house. They saw him sitting on his porch revising some mantras. They went over and confronted him about the king. After taking one look at them, he told them everything. “A few days after I had given him the information, he came again, but this time he asked me for a way to travel in time. I couldn’t deny it as he was the king, so I told him the way to the cave. When he opened the trap door, he saw the gods in front of him giving him a choice, he could either go to the future but be cursed or stay home. He chose to go to the future and was cursed to become a psychopath, forgetting who he was forever. His kids had also followed him there. There is only one way to bring him back, find the charm necklace which is destined to bring him back to his senses. To find that necklace you will have to follow the direction of the air till you reach a statue. Just go in the direction where the statue is pointing and you will reach a dead end. There you will find the necklace.”

They quickly thanked him and left for the quest, but before they left, the priest complimented Alia’s butterfly necklace and winked.

They were puzzled about how to follow the direction of the wind. Suddenly Arthur had an idea, he tore a piece of his shirt and rose it up in the sky. They went in that direction but it never seemed to end, it just kept going and going and going.

Finally, they saw the statue and to their surprise, the statue was pointing to the cave they entered from. There was no necklace, just the cave.

Chapter 6- Past Unravels

Disheartened they went back into the cave. As soon as they opened the trap door, standing in front of them, was nobody other than the killer.

They tightened their grip on their weapons. The killer tried to pounce on them but they dodged him. He then tried to corner Arthur but Alia blocked him with her sword pointing at him. But he just flicked it away like a small toothpick and pinned her about to kill her.

Right then he saw the necklace she was wearing and it looked as if he were blinded by it. Before he could come back to his senses, an arrow shot him right in the back. He fell to the ground howling in pain but while that was happening, she realised she was wearing the necklace they were looking for all along.

Hurriedly she took off her necklace and showed it to him. Arthur, acting on instinct, went over and forcefully had him keep his eyes open.

The killer, now back to his senses, stood up and asked “What am I doing here? What are you guys doing here?” They explained to him about the god’s curse and how he became a lunatic. He then asked “How do you guys know this? How did you even come here? Aren’t you supposed to be at the kingdom? Why do you guys look so old aren’t you supposed to be 8 if I was gone for 50 years as you said.” They were confused but something just clicked inside of Alia and she asked “What is attached to my necklace?” And to her suspicion, he said “A crystal, I should know, I gave it to you. What kind of a question is that?”

“Dad?” Arthur was stunned while the king just said “Of course who else would I be?” Suddenly it all made sense to her why she didn’t know where they came from, how the children of the kingdom were also missing, and why they aged so slowly. They just gave him a big hug and didn’t say a word after that. Finally, they left him and said a sentence they never thought they would say in their life,

“Let’s go home, Dad.”
