Poetry Collection #13: List Poems by Rishik Grover

1. Friends

Who are the friends that make us smile,
When we feel sad and low?

Where are the ones that cheer us up?
And the ones that just say hello.

Who are the friends that help us out,
When we face a problem or a task?

Where are the ones who lend a hand?
And the ones who just ask.

Who are the friends that stay with us,
When we go through good and bad times?

Where are the ones that discuss?
And those who just hear our rhymes.

Who are the friends that love us truly,
When we show our real self and heart?

Where are the ones who accept us as we are?
And the ones who make themselves apart.

Who are the friends who sacrifice things for us,
When we need help or aid?

Where are the ones that do not turn shade?
And the ones that go away.

Who are the friends that inspire us?
When we have a goal or a dream,

Where are the ones who motivate us?
And the ones who just demean.

Who are the friends that understand us?
When we have a feeling or a thought,

Where are the ones who listen to us?
And the ones who just do not.

The ones that cared,
Just cannot be compared.

The ones that did not,
Do not even deserve a thought.

2. Procrastination

Why do we always put off things?
Which we know we have to do,
Is it because we fear the outcome?
Or because we don’t have a clue……..

Why do we always try to find reasons?
To avoid the tasks at hand,
Is it because we lack the motivation?
Or do we not understand…….

Why do we always waste our time?
On things that don’t really matter,
Is it because we seek distraction?
Or we don’t want to work harder……

Why do we always regret later?
The things that we didn’t do,
Is it because we missed the opportunity?
Or did we not want to improve…..

Why do we do everything late?
When we have time now,
Is it because we are tired?
Or because we get bored somehow……

Why don’t we change our habits now?
And start doing things on time,
Is it because we don’t know how?
Or because we need a dime.

3. Climate Change

What is the cause of climate change?
Is it the pollution that we release?
It could be the greenhouse gasses that we emit,
It is us humans who are causing climate change, we must admit.

Why ruin our earth?
Isn’t it damaging its worth?
After all, Earth is all of our home,
Even if we live in a different biome.

Is the earth being put under stress?
Do we need to consider our actions and assess?
We must stop climate change Before it becomes too late,
We must act now and engage in saving our planet’s fate.

Can we spread awareness?
By educating others about the issue
If so,
Why do so many people still misdo?

How do we stop climate change?
After all, we must
What can we do to save the planet?
To stop it from turning into dust.

What are the effects of climate change?
Are they visible to our eyes?
It could be the rising sea levels and the melting ice,
We must stop climate change.

Who is responsible for climate change?
Is it the government or the corporations?
It could be the consumers or the producers,
We must stop climate change.

Where can we find solutions for climate change?
Are they in the science or the politics?
It could be in the innovation or the collaboration,
We must stop climate change.

When will we act on climate change?
Is it now or never?
It could be the present or the future,
We must stop climate change.

The Foolish Sage I Student Sashrika Prasad I Little Writers Program

By admin in Free Verse, Poetry, Poetry Collection for Kids & By Kids on April 19, 2023

An original epic poem inspired from the panchatantra story “The Foolish Sage”, written by our student Sashrika Prasad.

Sashrika is 13 years old, a young writer from Gurugram. The beautiful colors, flowers, and sunsets encourage her to write about deep emotions and feelings. We are proud to have her as a student of the Little Writers Program, an Online Creative Writing Program using Applied Storytelling & Applied Theatre tools under the mentorship of Trainer Khusshbo Chokhaani. We congratulate Sashrika for this exemplary true self-expression.

The Foolish Sage

Once there was a greedy and foolish sage,
Deva Sharma was well-known and respected,
People would offer him gifts,
But he would sell them off and get rich,
All the money stashed in a bag,
Always hung under his right arm,

He trusted nobody with his bag of money,
Which he soulfully protected,
So he never parted with it,
Otherwise, he would feel dejected,
One day, a swindler was sure that the bag held treasure,
Why else would he hold it under his arm with so much pleasure?

He thought about how he could steal the bag,
But obviously, he can’t make a hole in the wall,
Or jump over the high gates like a ping-pong ball,
So he decided to come up with a plan,
To lure the sage with his charming words,
To make himself the sage’s disciple,

The swindler fell at the sage’s feet,
Asked for the peace he wants to seek,
The swindler got accepted as a disciple,
Later to do so the sage initiated the rituals,
Swindler behaved well and showed obedience,

Even then he could not gain trust and confidence,
Swindler started cooking plans to grab the treasure,
Poison, Threat, Fear What should he do? Suddenly,
The Son of one of the sage’s followers paid a visit,
What he revealed, changed the swindler’s plans in a minute,
He invited the sage to the ceremony of sacred thread,

Sage accepted the invite and started the journey with the swindler,
On the way, the sage and the swindler came across a river,
The sage thought of having a bath in the river,
He is scared of getting himself revealed with the treasure,
He folded the money in his robe which the swindler later held,
The swindler got the opportunity he was seeking for a while,
And with the money bag, he ran away a few miles,

When the sage came out of the bushes,
You could see his anger, as it gushes,
The sage then started trailing the swindler’s footsteps,
He wept, swept, and left the riverside,
The sage is the perfect example to learn,
Greed makes a man blind and foolish.
