Are Artists Gifted or Trained?

Are artists god gifted or trained? In my opinion, successful artists are both god gifted and trained. It is definitely an innate ability because creativity is an integral part of a human being. Some are born with this creativity in an accelerated mode. While some nurture and nourishes this creative ability continuously through external training and continuous practice. Art exists everywhere and in every field. From scribbling on paper to expressing myself here on stage in front of you all, everything is an art.  Sculptors, Performance Artists, Makeup Artists, Illustrators, Makeup Artists, and many more, most of them are thriving based on two things:  practice and their structured or unstructured training. From Pablo Picasso to Indian Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna, all have excelled in their art and craft of painting and cooking through practice, dedication, grit, determination, and of course external teachers or training.

Agree or disagreed? If you disagree then you must listen to this story. If you agree then all the more you listen to this story.

It is said that real success comes after a string of failures that is what happened in JK Rowling’s life, the celebrated author of Harry Potter. One day when she was on sitting on a train seat where she got the idea of writing a fantasy book. As soon as she began to write, unfortunately, her mother died that year. She had to stop writing. Life threw many challenges at her but she had the determination of writing a book. She completed her book by writing it whenever she used to get time. As she was struggling between job and personal life challenges. Writing was her deeply rooted passion and a medium of expressing her true self. In 1995, her book was completed. She sent it for publication, and it got rejected by 12 publication houses. She didn’t give up. She had faith in her work. She knew that this book is revolutionary. She was exhausted but not defeated. She made conversations with other Publication companies and her efforts bore fruits. A small publishing company accepted the script of Harry Potter. The catch was they published only thousand copies.  Once it was published it went off the bookshelves like hotcakes. Harry Potter was another level of imagination and exemplary fantasy writing which nobody has read so far. There was a day when more than 500 million books of Harry Potter were published and sold.

This was possible only for an artist like JK Rowling because of her continuous practice of writing books, grit, determination, passion, and never to die attitude. She kept her patience throughout. With patience, her writing style was getting polished day by day.

To conclude I would like to say that to be a successful artist we should be trained either through formal or informal ways along with passion, grit, determination and continuous practice. J.K Rowling learned writing in early childhood and she got her first taste of success at the age of 35. Today we have the 7 volumes of Harry Potter and it has been translated into 84 languages around the world. She is a perfect example of a successful artist who has paved her way to excellence. American Actress, Sabrina Bryan once mentioned that, “You can achieve anything if you have the passion, the drive, the focus, and the support.” Are you ready to be an artist now? As I feel everyone today is an artist.

Are School Assignments Worthy? I Student Parv Garg I Offline Program Jaipur-Public Speaking Through Applied Storytelling & Theatre

By admin in Public Speaking Through Applied Storytelling & Theatre, Speech and Drama Based Personality Development for Teenagers, Speech Writing, Teenage Stories on June 15, 2023

An original speech, written by our student Parv Garg.

Parv is 11 years old young writer and orator from Jaipur. He loves lego and helping his parents. We are proud to have him as a student Public Speaking Through Applied Storytelling & Theatre Program in Jaipur under the mentorship of Trainer Khusshbo Chokhaani. Are School Assignments Worthy?

Imagine an 11-year-old spending his whole day from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. wondering and worrying about school homework all the time. It becomes more stressful when it is not done. Well, this I what my life looks like. Hello, everyone I am Parv, a student in grade 6. I am squeezed under the burden of school assignments all the time. Teachers give us assignments every day in Hindi, English, Maths, Science, and German. I write in all these subjects’ classes when the teachers are explaining. I have to forcibly write 5-6 pages of Question Answers at home after coming back, every day. Ahh !!! there is no breathing space. God help me…I don’t intend to do homework still I do it with no interest and no enthusiasm. I dread it. My hands hurt.

Few of you would say assignments make you revise or understand the concept better or secure good marks in examinations. Well, let me tell you a reality. It’s a myth. Let me tell you a secret, teachers don’t even check the assignments properly. Recently, on 18th Jan 2023, I gave my Hindi test. In this test, I answered a question with the same content that was approved by my teacher in the assignment which I submitted. You will be surprised to know that in the test, she marked it as an incomplete answer. What was the use of the assignment she gave? I would like to ask you all. Is it important to give assignments that children do out of compulsion? Assignments do no good to us. They kill the joy of learning. I am a perfect example of it. Leonardo Da Vinci, the notable Italian artist, and engineer once said –“Learning never exhausts the mind.”. Though my mind, hands, fingers, and back are not only exhausted but are worn out now.

I request teachers and school authorities to ignite the love for learning among children. I urge teachers to change their teaching methodology. Please make it fun, experiential, and long-lasting. For example, classroom teaching can be fun if there are questions to ponder over. It can be imaginative if a difficult concept is taught through a story. Instead of assignments how about a puzzle game or quiz session on the subject matter? If teachers want, they can make our home time free for family and friends. We can play at home and not be bothered about incomplete homework. Another option could be that they can reduce the syllabus. This can help the students to learn concepts through repetition. Teachers won’t rush to complete the syllabus and they wouldn’t bombard us with assignments.

We are tender children. We need time to breathe fresh air instead of breathing worry and anxiety about not finishing our assignments. The tender hands of an 11-year-old like me ache after writing 60 pages a day. Teachers, please have mercy on us. As I don’t intend to spend the rest of my academic life worrying about incomplete assignments from 7.30 am to 9 pm. I am sure if it continues it will soon seep into my dreams as well. To conclude, I would like to bring the attention of teachers to what Plutarch, the notable Greek philosopher once said, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited.”. Teachers, please ignite that fire for learning.
