The Helpful Bell

Last winter was hard and harsh. The weather was hard to survive. My friend Rohan and I always wore jackets, full pants, socks, and gloves. Our hands were blocked. The air was frigid. The wind was chilly and bitter. The sky was foggy. The windows were frosty. The sun rose but it didn’t give any warmth. No one was walking on the road. It was snowing outside so heavily that even 11 quilts will not protect anyone. After some time, everyone started approaching the campfire. After some time, it started raining heavily. It became colder. The temperature came down to minus 1 degree. The tap water became as cold as ice water. Everyone had to drink hot water to prevent freezing. The wind was blowing very hard. I was chattering.

Suddenly we heard a noise coming from the cupboard. Rohan quickly opened the cupboard. He saw a small bell. The bell was rusty because it was kept in the cupboard for a long time. So, Rohan thought to throw it in the dustbin. But as Rohan was about to throw the bell in the dustbin, the doorbell fell. It was loose. Then Rohan got an idea. Rohan nailed a nail and hammered it outside the door. We hung a ribbon on the nail and tied a knot around the small bell. We made sure that the knot will never open. So, whenever anyone comes, they would ring the bell. The weather was still nippy and harsh, though we found something to pass that cold winter night with the helpful bell.

The Vain Little Snowman

The sky was snowing!

The wind The Vain Little Snowman blowing!

Winter was here!

Winter was here!

In no time at all a snowman appeared.

He was round and fat

with a stout little hat.

He had two black eyes

and a big wide smile.

He held his head up high

and told all his folk,

” Unlike you,

I will never melt and die”

Then he told all of the trees,

”The children don’t like you,

they only like me”

He told the robins,

” Just look at your feathers,

so dirty and grimy.

Now look at my buttons so clean and shiny!”

And so the vain little snowman

stood with his pride,

until finally summer arrived.

The trees grew leaves

and the robins flew.

And as the sun grew hotter and hotter

the snowman was now no more than a puddle of water!
